Theatre Director | Facilitator | Composer | Creative Producer

I’m Martha Kent, a theatre director, composer and creative producer working across musical theatre, youth theatre and new writing. I graduated with a First-Class BA in Music, Theatre & Performance from the University of Hull in 2022 and trained as an Emerging Conducting Scholar at Warwick Arts Centre in 2023.

I have worked as an Assistant Director with New Perspectives Theatre Company, National Youth Music Theatre and internationally at Jána Palárika Theatre in Slovakia. I am currently developing a new revue musical Little Black Dress, exploring the iconic garment that changed the future for fashion, femininity and freedom.

Alongside directing, I have worked in production roles including Casting Assistant for Matilda the Musical UK & Ireland Tour with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Assistant Producer for Freedom Festival. As a composer, I have written music for the stage with New Perspectives Theatre Company and Nottingham Playhouse, alongside creating and performing my own work.

Day-to-day, I work as a Director for local performing arts schools and youth theatres, where I have directed productions like Animal Farm, Footloose & Shrek.

I am particularly interested in contemporary musical theatre and creating work that champions diverse voices and emerging artists.
